Electrical Consulting in Kozhikode & Wayanad
Electrical consulting in Kerala — load studies, design drawings, and feasibility before you commit to build.
What this covers
Electrical consulting is the thinking done before the first conduit is laid. It answers the questions that get expensive later: how much load will this building actually draw, what supply do we need from KSEB, where does the transformer or panel room go, and does the design pass IE Rules and CEA regulations. This is for owners and builders who want a costed, buildable electrical scheme before they commit money to it — including those who already have a contractor and just want a second opinion on the design.
What's included
- Connected load and maximum demand calculation — appliance-by-appliance load schedule, diversity factor applied, connected load and maximum demand stated in kW and kVA, which is the number KSEB works from.
- Supply feasibility and tariff advice — whether the site needs a single-phase, 3-phase LT, or HT supply; which KSEB tariff category applies (LT-1 domestic, LT-4/LT-7 commercial, LT-5 industrial, HT-1); and the deposit and cost implications of each.
- Single line diagram and design drawings — SLD from KSEB point to final DB, panel schedule, cable schedule with sizes and derating, conduit and point layout on the architectural plan.
- Protection and earthing design — MCCB/MCB ratings and discrimination, RCCB sensitivity, short-circuit and voltage drop calculation, earthing pit count and layout to IS 3043, lightning protection assessment.
- Power factor and APFC sizing — kVAr requirement for motor and chiller loads so you avoid the KSEB power factor penalty, and the APFC panel specification to deliver it.
- DG and backup sizing — genset kVA sizing against essential load, changeover scheme, and cable routing.
- Regulatory review — checking the scheme against Central Electricity Authority regulations and Kerala Electrical Inspectorate expectations before you build, not after they reject it.
- Cost estimate and BOQ — priced bill of quantities in rupees so you can tender the work or budget it honestly.
Who this is for
- Builders and developers — apartment and commercial projects needing an SLD and load schedule for approval and tendering.
- Resort owners — multi-block sites where the transformer location, cable runs, and DG sizing decide the whole cost.
- Hospital administrators — essential-load segregation, UPS backing, and redundancy planning that will be inspected closely.
- Factory owners — motor load studies, power factor correction, and whether the site should move from LT to HT supply.
- Architects — electrical input on the plan stage so panel rooms, shafts, and earthing space are not an afterthought.
- Owners with an existing building — load enhancement studies, why bills are high, and whether the existing wiring can take a new AC or solar load.
How it works
- Brief and site visit. We take the architectural plan or walk the existing building, note the intended use, occupancy, plant, and equipment, and record existing supply details from the KSEB bill and meter.
- Load study and feasibility. Load schedule and maximum demand are calculated, supply type and tariff category are recommended, and we tell you plainly what KSEB will and will not sanction at that location.
- Design and drawings. SLD, cable and DB schedules, protection coordination, earthing layout, and point layout are prepared to IE Rules and CEA regulations, with a priced BOQ.
- Handover and support. You get the drawing set and estimate as your own document — usable with any contractor. We remain available to answer contractor queries and to review the executed work against the design if you want that check.
Common questions
How do I know how much load to apply for from KSEB?
By calculating the connected load of every appliance and applying a diversity factor, since not everything runs at once. Applying for too little means a second application and another round of KSEB paperwork later; applying for too much inflates your security deposit and fixed charges. The load study exists specifically to get that number right the first time.
Can I hire you for the design and use my own contractor for the work?
Yes. The drawings, load schedule, and BOQ are yours. Many owners use them precisely to tender the execution and compare contractor quotes on a like-for-like basis.
When should I bring in an electrical consultant?
At plan stage, before the slab. Panel room location, cable shafts, earthing pit space, and transformer yard access all have to fit into the civil design. Fixing these after the structure is up costs far more than deciding them on paper.
My factory is getting a power factor penalty on the KSEB bill. Can you fix it?
That is a power factor issue and it is fixable with capacitor correction — usually an APFC panel sized to the reactive load. We measure the load pattern, size the kVAr requirement, and specify the panel. The penalty typically stops once the corrected power factor is being maintained.
